When it’s time for a new roof, some people wonder if there’s any way to get the insurance company to pay for the roof. The short answer is no. The long answer is actually maybe. It all depends on why you need a roof replacement.
If the roof has failed as a result of a fire, it will be covered. If the problem is that a tree fell on the roof, then it will also be covered. In both situations the insurance company may choose to only replace the areas of roof that are actually damaged, leaving the other areas intact. Should this be the case with your roof, it is wise to talk to your Oklahoma City roofers about the additional cost of having the entire roof replaced. You may find that it’s not a terribly huge difference in price.
You can force the insurance company to replace the entire roof if the existing shingles cannot be properly matched with any current options. Talk to a professional roofing company to find out how well the patched area will blend with the rest of the roof. If it won’t blend at all, then you can probably get the entire job done. Be prepared to get a written statement from a few roofers expressing that same opinion.
If the roof failed as a result of a hail storm or wind storm, then you should be able to get the entire roof replaced. Check for damage from the ground using a pair of binoculars and call out experienced roofers if you suspect damage. Be prepared to offer some proof that there was wide spread hail in the area or a serious wind storm by providing news reports from the Internet or newspaper.
If the roof failed as a simple result of age, your insurance company will not pay for the new roof. They will, however, pay for any damage inside the home that resulted from the *leaky roof. It is advisable that you would take any steps possible to minimize the damage inside your home should you notice a leak, but the insurance company should take care of any resulting damage.
